New Rule Protects Americans from Surprise Medical Bills

Washington, DC – The following statement should be attributed to James Gelfand, Senior Vice President of Health Policy, The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC):

“The ERISA Industry Committee applauds the Biden Administration for taking a firm stand to protect Americans from surprise medical bills while lowering health care costs for patients, families, and employers.

Employers work hard to protect our employees from ever-increasing health care costs, and surprise bills too often undermined the protection and peace of mind that employee benefits should provide. Because of the strong regulations released today, January of 2022 will mark the end, once and for all, of these predatory billing practices – and will do so without burdening patients with higher health insurance premiums.

Today’s regulations implementing the No Surprises Act are a positive step toward reducing health care costs and ending egregious medical billing practices that put families at risk.”
