ERIC Supports Michigan Senate Bill 753 on Telehealth

Washington, DC – The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC) submitted testimony to the Michigan Senate Committee on Health Policy, supporting Senate Bill 753 (S. 753). ERIC represents the country’s largest employers on their benefit and compensation interests, including many members with employees and retirees in Michigan.

“ERIC believes Senate Bill 753 strikes the right balance of flexibility needed to maximize the benefits of telehealth, while maintaining a high standard of health care,” said Annette Guarisco Fildes, president and CEO, ERIC. “Most importantly, the bill allows Michiganders faster, easier access to health care.”

ERIC advocates for barrier-free access to telehealth and applauds the technology-neutral definition of telehealth in S. 753, allowing for different types of technology to be used during telehealth visits.

ERIC is pleased that S. 753 considers the needs of patients who use telehealth, while recognizing that providers must maintain a high standard of care. ERIC believes that the standards governing in-person visits, to ensure patient safety and quality care, should also apply to telehealth visits. ERIC also appreciates the bill acknowledging a provider’s ability to exercise professional judgment to determine the most appropriate treatment for patients on a case-by-case basis.
