Congress Must Act Now to Update HSA Policies

For Immediate Release

Washington, DC – The following statement should be attributed to Annette Guarisco Fildes, President and CEO, The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC):

“The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC) strongly endorses the Bipartisan HSA Improvement Act of 2018, and calls on both the United States Senate and House of Representatives to move swiftly to enact the bill’s broadly-supported updates to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and the HSA Flexible Health Plans that go with them. Representatives Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) have produced a significant and much-needed bill that should be included as part of the Omnibus spending package this month. The bill includes improvements and modernizations which are needed to ensure that coverage options keep pace with innovation and changes in employer-sponsored coverage.

Congress cannot wait any longer to update HSA policies. More than 20 million Americans have HSA coverage, and that number is growing at a rapid pace. Passing this bipartisan legislation would allow employers to offer valuable medical services to keep their workforce healthy and give all employees equal access to the benefits available.”
