As you’ve probably heard by now, the U.S. Supreme Court on June 26 issued its long-awaited decisions on the constitutionality of same-sex marriages. The Court’s holdings in these cases will likely have a significant impact on the manner in which employee benefit plans need to be operated. The Court heard two cases involving same-sex marriages – Hollingsworth v. Perry (Prop. 8), and United States v. Windsor (DOMA).

To identify and unravel the implications of the DOMA decision, we have established an ERIC Task Force to discuss this issue over the next few weeks.

The schedule for the initial three conference calls will be:

• Thursday, July 11, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM (EDT)

• Thursday, July 18, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM (EDT)

• Thursday, July 25, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM (EDT)

• After July 25: we will schedule on an as-needed basis.

You are welcome to sign up for the task force without committing to attend any of the first three conference calls. Call-in information will be provided shortly before each call.
