The ERISA Industry Committee Supports the National Patient Safety Board Act

WASHINGTON, December 7, 2022 – The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC) and a growing coalition of diverse stakeholders support today’s introduction of legislation establishing the National Patient Safety Board (NPSB), an independent federal agency dedicated to monitoring, anticipating, and preventing adverse events in health care.

“ERIC supports the need for an independent oversight agency addressing safety in health care and avoiding health care related harms for employees and their families,” said ERIC President James Gelfand. “We encourage Congress to take action on this legislation, to protect lives and improve patient safety. The NPSB would guarantee a data-driven, scalable approach to preventing and reducing patient safety events in all health care settings. ERIC and our large employer member companies are standing by to work with Congress to perfect and advance this and other legislation to make a meaningful improvement for patient safety.”
