ERIC Side-by-Side Comparison of Pension Reform Proposals Updated as of July 7, 2005

Summary of House Education and Workforce Pension Reform Legislation (H.R.2830)

July 1, 2005 -- The House Education and Workforce Committee late yesterday completed its two-day markup of H.R.2830 providing extensive reforms to pension funding as well as cash balance, pension equity, and other hybrid plans.

The side-by-side summary of pension reform proposals, below, includes the Administration's original proposal, ERIC's proposal for comparison, and HR 2830. The side-by-side summary was developed in cooperation with Deloitte and we gratefully acknowledge the work of Robert Davis, Manager, Human Capital Advisory Group of Deloitte.

This summary was developed on the basis of the markup and we anticipate that there may be changes in final bill language as well additional views expressed in the Committee Report. We will update this side-by-side summary on ERIC OnLine as those changes become available.

An earlier email from ERIC Legislative Counsel Vanessa Scott included the Chairman's mark and various amendments that had been accepted.
