Today, ERIC sent letters to the Committees of jurisdiction over ERISA. The letter urges Congress to enact provisions that will provide benefit flexibility to workers, protect defined benefit plan benefits, provide flexibility for plan sponsors, and to protect retiree health care. Specific recommendations urge Congress to:
- Streamline loan procedures and liberalize rules regarding hardship distribution rules
- Temporarily waive the required minimum distribution rules
- Provide flexibility for dependent care expenses
- Interest rate relief for defined benefit plans
- Relief from single-employer PBGC premiums
- Extend filing and notification deadlines
- Flexibility in the suspension of safe harbor contributions
- Liberalize rules related to an accelerated vesting incident to a partial termination
- Extend and modify Code section 420 transfers
