Ohio Senate Committee Hears Surprise Billing Legislation

The Ohio Senate Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee heard for a second time HB 388, which relates to Out-of-Network Health Care. ERIC first showed its support of the bill back in November 2019. The bill has since been passed by the full House and is now in its first Committee in the Senate.

Governor Whitmer signed HB 4459, which will now ban balance billing for out-of-network services that are delivered at in-network facilities, as well as in emergency rooms, and specifies that providers will be reimbursed based on the average negotiated in-network rate in that region, or 150 percent of Medicare rates.
