The current wave of state legislation threatens to replace the uniformity of federal laws and regulations with an assorted patchwork of paid leave laws, making multi-state operation and compliance a difficult prospect for large employers. However, this action at the state level has not tempered interest at the federal level as recently noted in the State of The Union Address as well as in the reintroduction of the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (“FAMILY”) Act by U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.
