We plan to start on October 15 with a joint “Ask the Government” Session with representatives from the key regulatory agencies charged with overseeing employee-benefit issues, followed by concurrent Health Policy and Retirement Security Committee Meetings. We will follow with a full-day conference on October 16 featuring a look back at the effort to enact the landmark legislation, review how we got to where we are today, and consider where we go from here.

Panels also will cover the latest Congressional, regulatory, and legal developments in health care and retirement policy. Guest speakers will include leading industry and government experts, and panel discussions will include time for member questions and input.

Celebrate at a special ERIC reception honoring the 40th anniversary of ERISA with past supporters and special guests of ERIC who have been influential in ensuring the successful implementation and administration of ERISA for the past 40 years.

All ERIC members are strongly encouraged to participate in these meetings.

Among the featured topics, panels and guest speakers are:

  • Phyllis Borzi, Assistant Secretary for the Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration, and Mark Iwry, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Retirement and Health Policy for the U.S. Treasury Department and Senior Advisor to the Treasury Secretary, are the keynote speakers where they will update members on the latest employee-benefit developments within the Labor and Treasury Departments.

  • “Ask the Regulators,” featuring officials from the Departments of Labor, Health & Human Services, and Treasury, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

  • Three panels with luminaries from the past, ERIC members and leading benefit experts will review the history, development and impact of ERISA, featuring:

    • Ian Lanoff, past Administrator of the Labor Department’s Pension and Welfare Benefits Programs, as moderator of “ERISA: Development of a Blockbuster Benefits Law”;

    • Joe Schiffhouer, Corporate Vice President, Tax and Employee Benefits Law, with FedEx Corporation, as moderator of “The Impact of ERISA on Employee Benefits and Workforce Strategies”; and
