While this is an election year, don’t count out the possibility that significant reforms could be enacted. Large employers need to be on guard against major changes that will not only restrict their ability to manage their benefit plans, but also raise employer taxes and increase their exposure to litigation.

On April 9, we plan to start with a joint “Ask the Government” session with representatives from the key regulatory agencies charged with overseeing employee-benefit issues, followed by concurrent Health Policy and Retirement Security Committee Meetings. We will follow with a full-day conference on April 10 featuring expert presentations on timely and critical employee benefit matters.

Among the featured topics, panels and guest speakers are:

• “Ask the Regulators,” featuring Officials from the Departments of Labor, Health & Human Services, and Treasury, including George Bostick, Joe Canary, Michael Hash, Alan Tawshunsky, and Amy Turner.

• Meet Judy Mares, the new Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Employee Benefits Security Administration at the Department of Labor.

• A conversation with the PBGC’s new Participant and Plan Sponsor Advocate Connie Donovan and Chief Policy Officer Leslie Kramerich.

• The latest from Capitol Hill with key House and Senate committee staffers, including Kara Getz, Tax Counsel, Senate Finance Committee, and Marty Reiser, Professional Staff, House Ways and Means Committee.

• Challenges in the understanding and implementation of the Affordable Care Act with Andy Anderson, Partner, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

• Shared responsibility and reporting the results under the Affordable Care Act with Alden Bianchi of Mintz Levin, and Richard Stover with Buck Consultants, A Xerox Company.

• Impact of recent litigation on benefit strategies of large employers with Joan Disler and Jeffrey Lieberman of the law firm Epstein Becker Green.

• How large employers are preparing for the implementation of the ACA Cadillac tax in 2018, with Tami Simon of Buck Consultants, A Xerox Company, as moderator and panelists from ERIC member companies.

ERIC's April meetings will set the direction of our lobbying efforts and policy goals for the rest of 2014. You do not want to miss these critical discussions, so register now!
