Congressional budget conferees have a December 13 deadline to work out the differences between the two vastly different budget resolutions approved by the House and Senate last spring, and finalize recommendations for a budget agreement. Congress will then need to act by January 15, 2014, when the temporary extension in current funding for the government expires.
While skepticism runs high that the conferees will be able to reach an agreement, topics in the mix include funding the government for the remainder of the fiscal year, extending the current debt limit (which was extended until February 7, 2014), reforming entitlement programs, and reforming the tax code, which could include changes to benefits.
Meanwhile, the Obama Administration frantically continues to work out the kinks in the online exchange registration process, while the calls on Capitol Hill to further delay the individual mandate and penalties, and extend the enrollment period get louder.
Join us on Wednesday, November 6, to hear from ERIC's Health and Retirement experts for an update on these and other legislative, regulatory, and legal developments.
