BACKGROUND:
ERIC (www.eric.org)-whose member companies pay for life security plans directly to more than 10 percent of the U.S. population-is putting forth a bold new platform for life security benefits for all Americans.
The proposed platform, to be unveiled in a new report, would give employers an alternative method for providing benefits without the "entanglements" of traditional provider sponsorship. Benefits offerings would be administered by newly created competing Benefits Administrators. The platform would allow individuals to purchase coverage independent from an employer relationship, supports an individual mandate, and offers a structure that would allow employers to continue to their commitment to their employees' health and retirement security.
