Treasury, IRS Release Proposed Cash Balance Rules

The Department of Treasury and IRS published December 28 in the Federal Register a proposed rule related to the hybrid plan provisions of the Pension Protection Act of 2006, which introduces additional new terminology and provides additional guidance on the issues addressed last December in IRS Notice 2007-6. The proposed rule takes into account some comments received in response to the notice, but leaves many questions unanswered.

Comments on the proposed rule are due March 27, 2008.
