ERIC Continues to Push for Health IT Legislation

ERIC and a coalition of other groups have sent letters to Congress urging that Health Information Technology not be left by the wayside on this election year. In one letter, Congress is called upon to break the current gridlock over the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairman Nancy Johnson health IT bill (H.R. 4157) and pass it before the coming August congressional recess. A health IT bill has already passed the Senate - HELP Committee Chairman Enzi's S. 1418 - and if passed, H.R. 4157 would go to conference with that bill.

In another letter, ERIC urged appropriators to include in the 2007 Fiscal Year appropriations for the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Labor all of the health IT requests made by President Bush. ERIC and coalition members asked that the requests be fully funded, and not short-changed due to cost-cutting concerns.
