Senate Managers' Amendment" to S 1783

Below is the "managers' amendment" to S.1783, the Senate pension reform bill. The 730-page bill contains amendments revising pension funding rules, addressing hybrid plans, changing rules regarding defined contribution plans, among other matters. The completion of the amendment means that an effort will be made to bring the bill to the Senate floor for final consideration THIS WEEK. Only one amendment, regarding special rules for airlines, is presently expected to be offered.

The bill represents a negotiated compromise between earlier bills approved by the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

In the meantime, a companion House bill (H.R.2830) that combines the work of the House Ways and Means and House Education and Workforce committees is being readied for floor action in the House. That action also may occur before Thanksgiving.
