ERIC: Defined Contribution Issues in the Pension Security and Transparency Act of 2005 (S. 1783)

Defined Contribution Issues in the Pension Security and Transparency Act of 2005 (S. 1783)

As you know S. 1783, the Pension Security and Transparency Act of 2005 (PSTA), was introduced on Sept. 28. While the bulk of the bill consists of substantive pension and hybrid plan reform provisions, the bill also contains many of the defined contribution plan provisions that were introduced in the Senate Finance Committee's NESTEG bill.

Attached please find a comparison of the defined contribution plan issues in NESTEG with those in PSTA. We have also attached a mark-up of an ERIC NESTEG defined contribution issue statement that reflects the changes make in PSTA.

ERIC will continue discussions with Senate staff on the many of the remaining defined contribution issues in PSTA. While much of the focus in the Senate will be on pension issues, we will still be working on some of the more onerous defined contribution provisions contained in the bill.
