ERIC & Deloitte: Comparison of Significant Pension Reform Proposals (October 7, 2005)

Dear ERIC Members:

We are pleased to attach for your information and use an updated side-by-side of the pension funding and hybrid plan legislation moving through Congress. The side-by-side was prepared for ERIC by Deloitte Consulting. It outlines ERIC's proposals for pension funding and hybrid plan reform and compares the bills that have been approved by the House Education and Workforce, Senate Finance, and Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions committees.

To date, while these committees have approved a bill, none of them have formally filed their Committee report. As soon as these reports are filed, we will notify you.

The one remaining committee of jurisdiction -- the House Ways and Means Committee -- may act on the legislation in the last half of October. We also expect the two Senate committees to negotiate a common bill before bringing these issues to the Senate floor. Timing on those negotiations is uncertain at present.
