ERIC Advances Telehealth Initiative

For Immediate Release

Washington, DC – The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC) advances its telehealth initiative by submitting written testimony in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. ERIC also submitted comments to the Washington, D.C. Department of Health.

ERIC, the only national trade association advocating solely for the employee benefit and compensation interests of America’s largest employers, launched its telehealth initiative last year to promote barrier-free access to providers through telemedicine. ERIC members have employees in every state so uniformity across the country is critical; it is extremely important that telehealth laws and regulations allow those employees, retirees, and their families access to the care they need –when and how they need it.

ERIC supported telehealth bills in both Louisiana and Mississippi that would increase access to health care through the use of telemedicine. ERIC also supported proposed rules in D.C. In Tennessee, ERIC weighed-in against telehealth bills that include problematic reimbursement mandates, requiring reimbursement at the same rate for in-person and telemedicine encounters.

“ERIC is committed to advancing thoughtful telehealth legislation and regulations at the state and national level,” said Allison Wils, Director of Health Policy, ERIC. “ERIC’s members want their employees to have access to the health care services they need at the earliest opportunity and in a manner that accommodates their busy lives. It’s important that laws and regulations maintain a high-quality standard of care without creating unnecessary roadblocks to needed health care services that may be offered via telehealth.”
